
STATION SALES
Multistate Deal – Lilly Broadcasting has filed a $4 million deal to buy 11 stations in the Ashtabula, OH and Jamestown, NY area from James Embrescia’s Media One Group. In the Ashtabula region, it buys classic hits “Magic 102.5” WZOO-FM, country “98.3 The Bull” WYBL, soft AC “Lite Mix 97.1” WREO-FM, classic rock “107.5 The Fox” WFXJ, and sports WFUN (970). In the Jamestown region, Lilly buys “My Country 101.9” WHUG, “Kissin Oldies 106.9” WKZA, hot AC WWSE (93.3), “Rock 103.1” WQFX, adult standards “Legends 1340” WKSN, and talk WJTN (1240). The deal also includes the Jamestown, NY-licensed translator W267CN at 101.3 that simulcasts WJTN. James and Brian Lilly currently own four radio stations in western Pennsylvania — only hot AC “Happi 92.7” WICU-FM overlaps with its new additions — as well as television stations in New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
New York – Scott Swanson’s TOTIB Media has filed a $2.2 million deal to buy seven stations from Alan Bishop’s Finger Lakes Radio located between the Rochester and Syracuse markets.
The stations include classic rock “The Lake” WCGR, Canandaigua, NY (1550); classic hits WFLK, Seneca Falls, NY (99.3); AC “Mix 98.5” WNYR, Waterloo, NY; classic rock “101.7 The Wall” WLLW, Geneva, NY; news-talk WGVA, Geneva, NY (1240); “Finger Lakes Country” WFLR, Dundee, NY (1570); and news-talk WAUB, Auburn, NY (1590) from Alan Bishop’s Finger Lakes Radio Group.
The deal includes nine translators — the Canandaigua, NY-licensed W283BF at 104.5 FM; the Victor, NY-licensed W261DR at 100.1 FM; the Melrose Park, NY-licnesed W251AJ at 98.1 FM; the Auburn, NY-licensed W242DC at 96.3 FM; the Geneva, NY-licensed W240DO at 95.9 FM; the Geneva, NY-licensed W292FG at 106.3 FM; the Penn Yan, NY-licnesed W241CN at 96.1 FM; the Watkins Glen, NY-licensed W270BY at 101.9 FM; and the Dundee, NY-licensed W245BL at 96.9 FM.
The assets also include FLX Digital and FingerLakesDailyNews.com, which together serve the communities of Geneva, Canandaigua, Seneca Falls, Penn Yan, Auburn, and surrounding areas. The filing shows the sale includes a 10-year promissory note valued at $1.32 million. Bishop will also be paid an annual earn-out during the first five years post-closing, capped at $350,000 over the period. Bishop will also be paid $150,000 for a five-year advisory role, with another $100,000 for a non-compete agreement.
TOTIB Media will operate the stations under a time brokerage agreement until closing. It doesn’t own any other stations. Swanson was most recently Senior VP of Marketing for iSpot. Once the sale closes, Bishop will still own “Kix Country 96.5” WBKX, Fredonia, NY, and classic hits WDOE, Dunkirk, NY (1410). Broker: George Kimble
Milwaukee – Sage Weil’s Civic Media has filed a $1.4 million deal to buy adult R&B “The Voice” WNOV (860) from Mary Ellen Jones-led Courier Communications. The deal includes the Milwaukee-licensed translator W293CX at 106.5 FM and the weekly Milwaukee Courier newspaper. Courier Communications has owned the station since 1973. As part of the transition, Mary Ellen Jones will serve as a consultant, with Jerrel Jones assisting on the newspaper side. Civic Media will operate WNOV under a time brokerage agreement until closing. It already owns news-talk WAUK (540) and oldies WZTI/WRJN (1290-1400) in the Milwaukee market.
Oklahoma – Hilliary Communications has filed an $867,500 deal to buy Mollman Communications, the operator of eight Oklahoma stations. They include classic hits “Kool 105.5” KWCO, Chickasha, OK; “Kickin Country 97.1” KKEN, Duncan, OK; alternative KKRX, Lawton, OK (1050); R&B “97.9 Jamz” KJMZ, Cache, OK; “New Country 98.5” KACO, Apache, OK; adult R&B KXCA, Lawton, OK (1380); classic rock “The Eagle 105.3” KDDQ, Comanche, OK; and talk KFTP, Duncan, OK (1350). Four translators are also part of the sale. They include two in Lawton, OK — K229DG at 93.7 FM and K244FW at 96.7 FM — as well as the Chickasha, OK-licensed K291BR at 106.1 FM; and the Duncan, OK-licensed K291CT at 106.1 FM. Hilliary Communications will operate the stations under a local marketing agreement until closing. It doesn’t own any other stations but CEO Dustin Hilliary is co publisher of “The Southwest Ledger” newspaper and Hilliary Communications owns the Oklahoma Ag Network — one of the state’s largest farm and ranch radio networks.
Fort Smith, AR – John Brown University has filed a $290,000 deal to buy rock “The Fort 94.5” KFPW from William Pharis’ Fort Smith Radio Group. The University already owns three contemporary Christian stations in the Fayetteville-North West Arkansas region, but this is its first in Fort Smith. Once the sale closes, Fort Smith Radio Group will still own sports “The Marshall 103.5” KHGG and classic hits “Kool 104.7” KQBK in the market.
North Carolina – Solid Rock Baptist Church has filed a $100,000 deal to buy gospel “AM 760 The Cross” WCIS, Morganton, NC from John Whisnant’s W.F.M., Inc. The deal includes the Morganton, NC-licensed translator W265DY at 100.9 FM.
North Carolina – Glasgow Hicks has filed a $45,000 deal to buy business partner Jeffrey Jones’ 50% stake in Audiotraxx Media Partners. It owns classic hits “Kool” WTXY, Whiteville, NC (1540). The deal also includes the Whiteville, NC-licensed translator W280FO at 103.9 FM. The sale involves a $20,000 promissory note to be paid over a three-year period.
Fort Collins-Greeley, CO – William Neidig has filed a $16,000 deal to buy regional Mexican KXJJ (1570) from Kristy Roberts’s Spanish Media Consulting. The deal also includes the Loveland, CO-licensed translator K267CD at 101.3 FM.
TRANSLATOR SALES
Connecticut – Conduit Communications has filed a $275,000 deal to buy the Windsor, CT-licensed translator W248CR at 97.5 FM from Gois Broadcasting. Conduit Communications plans to simulcast Lighthouse Christian Center’s contemporary Christian “Q-99.7” WLCQ-LP on the translator. Broker: JB Media Radio Consulting & Brokerage
Fort Pierce-Stuart-Vero Beach, FL – James Price’s Little Dog Media Group has filed a $50,000 deal to buy the Stuart, FL-licensed translator W297AG at 107.3 FM from Central Educational Broadcasting. Little Dog Media Group will operate the signal under a time brokerage agreement until closing. It plans to relay talk WSTU (1450) on the translator. Earlier this month it filed a similarly-sized deal to add a translator to talk sister WPSL (1590).
Massachusetts – Nelson Diaz’s Airwave Ventures ID 153531 has filed a $40,000 deal to buy the Pittsfield, MA-licensed translator W230CP at 93.9 FM from Dennis and Maureen Jackson’s Sun Signals. The filing says the translator will continue to simulcast classic hits “The Peak” WBRK, Pittsfield, MA (1340).
CLOSINGS
St. Louis – David Greene and Conrad Thompson’s Big Toe Media have closed a $250,000 deal to buy talk “The Lou” KLIS (590) from Zorbist Media. The deal includes a $225,000 promissory note. Seller David Zobrist exits radio ownership with the sale.
North Carolina – Lisa Brickhouse Davis’ Wright Sound has closed a $20,000 deal to buy WVOD, Manteo, NC (99.1) from Jam Media Solutions. The station is currently silent, but it most recently was formatted as adult alternative “99.1 The Sound” with a signal that covers an area including Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head. Davis has over 30 years of experience in the fields of voiceover and broadcasting. She most recently was the afternoon drive personality on WVOD. Davis is also the publisher of the online publication TheOuterBanksLife.com. The sale is part of the bankruptcy liquidation of Jam Media Solutions. Broker: Media Sales Group/Hanna Unwired
Michigan – Todd Noordyk’s Great Lakes Radio has closed a deal to donate oldies WQXO, Munising, MI (1400) to Educational Media Foundation. The deal includes the Munising, MI-licensed translator W249DR at 97.7 FM. The stations will allow EMF to fill in the gaps in its Marquette, MI market coverage where the contemporary Christian “K-Love” format airs on WSHN (89.3) and WCRR (88.9).
