Montgomery, AL-based Bluewater Broadcasting has launched urban contemporary “Streamz 100.5” on FM translator W263BX in Montgomery, which it claims is the first radio station in the U.S. to be programmed by local streaming activity.

According to Bluewater’s news release, the station — with the tagline “powered by what you play” — analyzes data based on more than 3 million streams weekly from 19 pureplay services in the Montgomery metro, as compiled by Bridge Ratings, to determine which songs get airplay. “You’re not just listening — you are picking the playlist,” Streamz 100.5’s website says.

“By merging local streaming data with live radio, Streamz 100.5 gives Montgomery, AL listeners the power to shape what plays on the air, turning everyday music fans into music programmers,” the release says. “Streamz 100.5 brings a new kind of energy to Montgomery’s urban soundscape, blending the most-streamed hip-hop, R&B and local talent into one connected experience, ensuring the station’s sound stays in sync with what listeners are actually playing across streaming platforms.”

Listeners are encouraged to not only tune in on 100.5 FM or stream at Streamz1005.com, but to follow the station on all social platforms to see how their streams shape its on-air sound every day.

“We’re proud to launch this groundbreaking concept right here in Montgomery,” Program Director and afternoon drive host DJ Fresh says. “Our listeners are literally programming their own radio station, and that’s something no one else in the country is doing. This city’s music taste drives everything we do. If you’re streaming it, we’re playing it.”

With its launch, “Streamz 100.5” becomes the fourth urban contemporary station in the Montgomery market, joining iHeartMedia’s “Hot 105.7” WZHT and Autaugaville Radio’s “Big KD” WZKD (950 AM and FM translator 94.1 W231DF) and “97.9 Jamz” WJWZ, which it purchased from Bluewater in 2025.

Bluewater Broadcasting also owns and operates Montgomery stations “News Talk 93.1” WACV, adult contemporary “Kiss 96.1” WQKS, “Bama Country” 98.9 WBAM, classic country “The Possum” on FM translator 103.9 W280EI and WQKS-HD4, modern/alternative rock “The Gump” WGMP 1170 AM and FM translator 104.9 W285AJ, and classic rock “The Vault” 107.1 on FM translator W296AI and WQKS-HD3 96.1.
